Biography and Personal Interests
Prior to coming to Western OB/GYN, I have enjoyed practicing in New Mexico. I have been in practice in New Mexico (Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Los Alamos) since 2000. Most recently, I did some temporary work in Spokane, Washington at Deaconess Hospital. In December 2016, my husband and I decided we should explore options for living outside of New Mexico and I undertook a country wide search for OB/GYN positions. As fate would have it, I became "friends" with Dr. Huldeen on a facebook page for OB/GYN's and she told me there was an opening in Waconia. After meeting the folks here in Waconia, it was an easy decision to join Western OB/GYN.
Everyone seems to ask me why I moved from New Mexico to Minnesota. I started my early life in Minnesota. My parents were both born and raised in Minnesota and I lived in Minnesota through first grade. My grandfather sold John Deere farm implements in Glencoe, MN his whole life. My family ended up moving to Los Alamos, NM for my father's career. After that move, I spent summers and winter breaks in Minnesota with various relatives. Returning to Minnesota was an easy decision.
I enjoy almost all aspects of obstetrics and gynecology. The variety of problems that come up day to day in my practice leaves me always engaged and never bored. I am a strong surgeon, offering minimally invasive surgical techniques as well as prolapse surgical options. I have taken care of many women with high risk pregnancies, but I also enjoy my patients with low risk pregnancies. It's always fun to place a healthy baby in a mother's waiting arms.
I am passionate about my patients getting the best care possible. I want my patients to feel comfortable asking me any question or bringing up any concern. I strive to empower women to take charge of their health and reproductive options. We all have choices, and I want my patients to have the information and the support they need to weigh options and make strong choices that work for them. Whether they are deciding to undergo a hysterectomy, or considering birth control options, I want them to truly participate in the decision making process.
My husband Alex and I have moved our family, including our two children and our dog Sven, to Waconia. My husband is a computer scientist and our children are attending the Waconia public schools. We are looking forward to jumping into Minnesota outdoor activities with "both feet". My son loves to fish and is looking forward to ice fishing. My husband is eager to own a tractor and I am excited to garden, as it seems everything grows here.
