Certified Nurse Midwives

Renee A. McNeill, CNM

Renee A. McNeill, CNM

I have been a nurse for 35 years. I spent the first 19 years "specializing" in pediatrics. I realized that I wanted to take care of families too, so I decided to concentrate my career in obstetrics and women’s health care. Taking care of pregnant women before and during labor has been very fulfilling and enjoyable. It is an honor to help bring a baby into this world.

I like to assist families in experiencing the type of labor they want in a calming and supportive manner. I love our midwifery practice at Western ObGyn because we are able to offer a full range of midwifery care in a supportive environment.

Shawn Johnson, CNM

Shawn Johnson, CNM

My philosophy of midwifery care is based on the belief that pregnancy and birth are normal and beautiful physiological life events. I strongly believe that my role is to be a guardian of this normal process. My goal is to provide evidence-based care in partnership with women so that they can be empowered to make informed choices.

My feelings about pregnancy and birth are best stated by Barbara Katz Rothman, who said “Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers—strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength."

She earned her master of science in Nurse Midwifery from Bethel University and is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives. “Being a midwife allows me to be alongside women throughout their lifespan. I am honored to be able to share such monumental moments with so many women.”

Leah sees patients in Two Twelve Medical Center in Chaska and in Ridgeview Professional Building in Waconia.

Jennifer Finger, CNM

Jennifer Finger, CNM, has joined Western OB/GYN, a Division of Ridgeview Clinics in December, and sees patients at its Waconia and Chaska clinic locations. The addition of Jennifer grows the long-established practice to seven physicians, four midwives, a nurse practitioner and a physician assistant.

Jennifer is a board-certified nurse midwife with a special interest in well-woman care from adolescence through menopause, water births, holistic care and integrative therapies. “My approach to patient care was greatly influenced by the positive, caring and intuitive support I received during the birth of my own children,” said Jennifer. “With each birth, my midwife worked with me to implement a birthing plan that honored my choices and was by my side throughout the birthing process. I offer that same personalized care for my own patients today,” she added.

Jennifer received her Masters of Science, Nurse-Midwifery from Frontier Nursing University in Hayden, KY.
